Cornwall is a fantastic
destination to visit regardless of the time of year. During the
summer though, Cornwall offers visitors an unbelievable variety of
cultural events which makes the county even more attractive to
domestic and foreign guests. This blog post therefore focuses on some
personal favourites which might be of interest for you when trying to
attract returning guests.
- Golowan Festival – Penzance (20 – 30 June)
The
Golowan festival is one of the most anticipated events in the South
West and attracts thousands of spectators throughout the week. Local
schools, businesses and residents play an essential part in the
success story of the Golowan Festival and it is because of their
contribution that visitors are able to enjoy a fantastic variety of
theatre and music productions as well as walks, poetry and art
displays. A not to be missed event is the Mazey Day parade.
- Marazion Carnival – Marazion (14 July)
During
the summer various carnivals are taking place across the county. The
Marazion Carnival is extra special because of its beautiful scenery.
Spectators can look forward to a colourful procession as well as
barbecues, live music and a tug-of-war competition.
- Penzance Literary Festival – Penzance (7 – 21 July)
The
Penzance Literary Festival took place for the first time in 2010 and
since then has grown in popularity. Besides having the opportunity to
take part in workshops and round table discussions, visitors are
highly encouraged to meet and greet the participating authors. For
details on the festival, I highly recommend to take a look at the
Penzance Literary Festival website.
- RNAS Culdrose Air Day – Helston (24 July)If you ever wondered what life at a Navel Air station is like then this is a not to be missed event for you. The Royal Navy only allows the public to take a look behind the scenes once a year, one day only. Visitors can look forward to some amazing flying displays as well as testing their piloting skills in the flight simulator.
- Cornwall Circus Camp – Penryn (31 July – 4 August)
A
day at the Cornwall Circus Camp is definitely not for the faint
hearted as participants will learn much loved circus skills such as
juggling, hire wire walking and acrobatics. The camp takes place in a
very beautiful setting of Chyan Community Field near Penryn.
These
are my top five events for the summer of 2013. If you would like to
add an event to the list, please feel free to contact me with the
details which will then be published in an additional blog post.
